He travelled on the outside lane, driving his powerful car with the darkened windows so close to the central barrier that sparks rose as its shadow brushed cement. A high-flying businessman, his ears were plugged with demanding voices and his eyes seared by exigent screens. How could he have noticed, as he entered the penumbra of the mountain's paunch, the egret diving into the autumn-sunrise tinted trees beyond? But when they pulled him from his upturned vehicle, he said, smiling, that the last thing he'd seen before he lost control was an ice-white angel descending in a russet glow.

A wondrous sight that would have run anyone off the road. Lucky for him he didn't meet his end as did Icarus.

That's what I thought, Sue. I interpreted the title the same way. Beautiful use of language, Mimi. Was the ice-white angel of this world or the next?
