As she dragged her shriveled legs down the school hallway, Jody overheard a gaggle of parents whispering, “What a hero she is,” they said. “So inspirational.”
Though Jody heard these comments often, they made her cringe and she began bellowing to the group, “My disability doesn’t make me a hero. I’m just a mom who loves her children.”
An angry tear rolled down Jody’s cheek as she muttered, “I didn’t have a choice.”
