Her daughter in the child seat whimpered, and she knew what she must do. Unclipping her seat belt, she fell heavily against the door, gashing her head.
She crawled into the rear of the car and passed her child up to the reaching hands at the smashed window, then fell back, unconscious again.
She didn’t see the man climb into the car to lift her to safety. She didn’t see the rescuers who dragged her clear.
Nor did she see the lethal fireball.
