I listen every morning to the old men in the café with their artificial teeth, artificial hips, and artificial hearts. Swapping stories. Telling lies. Complaining “ain’t it awful.” Talking revolution. “Throw the bastards out.” “Rewrite the laws.” “Change it back to the way it was.” Old men meeting over cappuccino and muffins. Sitting around tables. Solving problems both imaginary and real. Saving the world. Telling how it was, how it is, and how it should be in the sanctuary of a café where no one cares and no one listens. If only we had listened before becoming old and invisible.

Such a wonderfully described scene...."old and invisible" carries such meaning in this story.

Let the aged live in their imaginative world. A nice one, Jim. Comments are closed.
