On the dolphin tour, we pitched in choppy water beside the dolphins riding the waves nearby. Our captain said we were heading to Jekyll Island when suddenly the boat lurched and the front end plunged face down into the ocean, water pouring in. People panicked, screaming, the first mate threw out life jackets. As the ship settled into the ocean, I thought about how it was the second most globally populated shark waters with twelve species of sharks. Then, another lurch. The boat righted itself, leaving us in ankle deep water and we decided the island wasn’t really that important.

Next time, stay on Jekyll Island and drive across the causeway to the pier on St. Simons Island to watch the dolphins go by. Good story, Scott. 19/5/2023 07:10:25 pm
Thanks Dee! That actually happened after I moved to St Simons Island some years ago, where I lived until my late father came down with a brutal cancer and as an only child, I felt an obligation to go help so I moved up to Chattanooga, very sorry to leave East Beach. When I wasn't living on St Simons, I've visited many times and usually stayed down in one of the cute hotels near The Village or at The Village Pub, just so I can enjoy that area, and of course the pier. It's really ironic you mention that because the boat we were on left the marina on St Simons for Jekyll and halfway between the SSI lighthouse and Jekyll is when this occurred. I'm not easily frightened, but I'm a shark fan and allegedly there are literally more in those waters than anywhere else except the Australian Barrier Reef! Which I didn't believe til I saw people catching little sharks off the pier there! Heh. Sorry for the long reply. I'd love to hear your experience. If this is not an appropriate venue, there should be a link to my website in this response, and I'm available there. Thanks again. -- Scott 19/5/2023 09:22:57 pm
I could feel the fear and heard Quint whispering in my ear. Nicely done, Scott.
