The fat wood pigeon crash-lands in the buddleia. Wobbles. It’s been attracted by suitable nest material; thin dead twigs here and there. It seizes one in its beak and begins a ten second tug-of-war with the tree. Its grasping feet and flailing wings break off two handy specimens during the contest. They fall to the picnic table below. Oblivious to the success, the bird moves to another likely candidate, furiously jerks its small head and rides the springy branch like a Broncho.
