Rest in Peace, Missy. Your pain is gone but your memory will scamper through my heart forever.
I position the last rock on the fresh mound of soil beneath the English Maple and take a step back. Through the mist of pent up tears I see one remaining golden leaf quivering on the highest branch. It breaks free, flutters down on the gentle breeze and lands at my feet. My tears flow.
Rest in Peace, Missy. Your pain is gone but your memory will scamper through my heart forever.

Thanks Sue! I keep reminding myself that every sad loss still adds up to years and years of love and joy.

Thanks Jim. It never gets any easier, does it? And you think you can never have another but when you're ready, you do. Although we've never met, I've known Sue Clayton for many years through my writing magazine here in Australia and by email we were adding up the number of pets we'd sadly had to take for their final visits to the vet...it made me think that it also added up to so many wonderful times and precious memories that will live on. Amazing how much writing about it helps, too. I hope your dog is somewhere up there playing with Missy and remembering all our good times, too. Comments are closed.
