And still she walked, walked away from it all. The excited shrieks from the helter skelter, the clang of the arcade, concentrating on the horizon she walked. Until the sea’s icy grasp took her breath away and her head at last was quiet.
Pockets heavy with dreams she stood at the sea edge. Stepped forward, a tentative toe first, then strode until ankles were covered, then knees, then those pockets were submerged. Hopes floating out with the retreating tide but the rocks she’d collected stayed put. Seaweed clasped around her legs, as if to steady her on the slippery pebbles.
And still she walked, walked away from it all. The excited shrieks from the helter skelter, the clang of the arcade, concentrating on the horizon she walked. Until the sea’s icy grasp took her breath away and her head at last was quiet.
