A faint white cheek scar. Eyes a little small. A persistent five o’clock shadow. Lips a bit thin. Shoulders not as broad as I’d like.
So easily unnoticed.
A stocking cap flattens my straw-colored hair to almost skull thickness. My face returns to morning smoothness under makeup and the scar disappears. A well-coiffed wig creates a distinguished look while padding broadens my shoulders. Eyeliner enlarges my eyes, color enlarges my lips. A fashionable suit radiates purpose and success.
Once again, perfect.
I am gone.
Now they’ll notice. Clap. Make me part of their world.
