Pete and Andrea peeked their heads into the dark building. “Hello?” Pete called out. “Anyone there?”
Silence was the answer.
The two of them stepped tentatively inside. They moved their hands against the walls, looking for a light switch or signs of life.
“At last ... they’re here!” a deep voice suddenly bellowed. “We’ve been waiting to do this for a long time!”
The two visitors looked towards each other, although they could see nothing. They were both tense, and worried.
The room lights flashed on. “SURPRISE!” Their friends and family members filled the room. The two gasped.
“Happy Anniversary, guys!”
