Nine years old – I had been sold into slavery. Permitted to say one word only: “yes”, I ate scraps, slept in the stables, served masters, who beat me mercilessly. I longed for home.
Abdullah grabbed me from the yard, stifled my screams with a sock, blindfolded and tied me up.Thrown into his pick-up truck, we sped down the bumpy dirt road. What seemed like hours, we stopped. I was shoved out, pushed and pulled to what seemed like a boat. Crying for water, they roughly gave me some. I fainted and awoke when we finally reached - Darfur.

Well told little tale from a young girl's viewpoint. Makes one shudder to realize that things like this go on in the world--routinely! Good job of writing! Comments are closed.
