Cora opens her eyes, and she stares at her visitor in puzzlement. But the tubing from the ventilator passes through her vocal cords and prevents her from speaking.
He grabs her hand with a look of anguish. "You're awake," whispers her husband.
"You should get some rest," says Cora's nurse and touches him on the shoulder.
"I don't think she recognizes me," says Daniel and sounds anxious.
"Sometimes patients block out memories after traumatic events. She just needs time."
Cora will get a second chance. The drunk driver isn't so lucky.
