Small children play on our streets when the sun shines – as it has done this evening. A fat, friendly cat weaves his way among them hoping for affection, or more likely that they have dropped some food.
In need of diversion, I watch. They are crouched on the grass and whatever they are doing absorbs them totally, apart from one little girl who is now stroking the cat.
When she tries to pick him up that is a liberty too far. He races off, hotly pursued by this small fiend. I open the door discreetly and let him in.
