Fly Couture, by Peggy Gerber

9/10/2020

Caryn opened her Instagram and burst into laughter. Her friends were modeling the newest fashion accessories; they deemed it Fly Couture. She shouldn’t have been surprised, after all the fly on the Vice President’s head was the star of the debate and all social media.

Caryn promptly searched online and found fly t-shirts, necklaces, masks and more, but her face lit up when she saw the fly hair clip with sparkling rhinestones. Placing her order she pondered that while some might be buying these items as a political statement, she wasn’t. In the year 2020, everyone needed a good laugh.

Perhaps VP Pence should give Senator Harris one of those hair clips for Christmas. That would make him The Joker instead of the joke.

That fly sent laughter waves rippling around the globe. It was definitely the star of the debate. Love the thought of fly couture.

A fly being the star of the debate, is a pretty damming statement in itself.

Thank you everyone for your comments. They mean so much to me.

Fly couture-What a great idea! You should start marketing this - I could use a rhinestone fly hair clip and some laughs!

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
