Grab a Bargain, by Sandra James

23/10/2020

Free to Good Home

One thousand smiles in excellent condition. Hardly used due to Covid-19 isolation. Always covered with a face mask.

Suitable for all ages in any weather conditions. Will co-ordinate with any outfit.

Top of the range, excellent quality.

Very productive and highly contagious; almost every time you use one you will get one back. I have more than enough and they breed faster than rabbits.

Sure to appreciate in value. Get some now; demand will be high in the future when we are finally unmasked.

Call me now on 0412 345 678.

Thanks Bobby! I suspect there are quite a few in 'as new' condition out there just waiting to be allowed out again :)

One of the things that I miss most with having to wear the masks is seeing people's smiles...
Nice

So true about smiles - reading it made me smile :)

Thank you - nice to know that even if I can't smile at someone, there another way :)

Thanks Jim, me too! And,ironically, just when we need to see them to most...

Exactly right. For now, we must learn to smile with our eyes.

Thanks, Peggy :) I find myself peering closely at strangers now, just to look for smiling eyes!

Clever. And you can see the smiles in people's eyes if you look close enough.

Thanks Candace, and yes, although we're missing the smiles, many of us are making much more eye contact :)

A beautiful story uniquely dedicated to smile. Well done, Sandra.

Thank you, Paritosh! We can never have too many smiles...pre, during and post Covid :)

The only smiles that ever counted were the ones where the eyes smiled as well.

Thanks Gordon, and I agree completely! I think, pre-masks, it was the upturned lips that first pointed to the smiling eyes...now we just have to look a bit harder :)

Sandra, I'll be first in the queue to buy one of your smiles but for now, I'll be content with the smile your brilliantly written piece brought to my face.

Thanks, Sue! They're all free and so nice to know I've created some smiles this week. Where there's a will there's a way :)

I smiled at this fantastic evocative piece of writing.

Thanks, Al! I've been staying home as much as possible but I felt cheated after recent shopping trip. I smiled behind my mask and I did connect with a few pairs of eyes but it's not the same...but knowing my story has brought a smile to you and so many others is a wonderful feeling :)

    "Classic"
    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.
Recently, we've welcomed a lot of newcomers and found that even two batches doesn't cover them all. Wherever that happens, we'll simply be publishing 'as and when' during the course of the day.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
