Tara walks through the store, sweating through her mask. She just wants to buy what she needs and leave. The supermarket is mostly empty aside from a few customers complaining about the lack of products. She ignores them. At checkout, the cashier is friendly, and she senses a smile, but all she can see is bright blue eyes.
After Tara loads her trunk with the groceries, she gets into the driver’s seat and removes her mask. She scrubs her hands with Purell, takes a deep breath and bellows so loud, her ears ring. The pandemic has finally taken its toll.
