She caught Reggie’s eye, and he smiled. Her heart melted a little, and she took a deep breath. “Here I come, my love,” she whispered, as she grabbed the bar and pushed off.
She looked out over the crowd, feeling their contagious excitement. She smoothed the flounce on her costume, just to keep her hands busy. Looking across at Reggie, poised and ready on the opposite trapeze, she swallowed and felt sick. Last night she and Reggie had quarreled, and the disagreement was still between them. She didn’t feel happy about flying today. The sense of trust was not there.
