The town was bracing itself for the monster snowstorm. Four to seven inches were expected, and people were panicking.
“What are we gonna do?” Jill wailed.
“Well, the storm twenty years ago had had a big effect,” Ray reasoned.
“Wait. ‘Had had’ had been acceptable then?” Wanda cut in.
“Never!” Trent thundered. “If ‘had had’ had been OK, I never had had ‘had had’ as a phrase to use myself.”
“Forget this!” Sandra grumbled. “I’m going to hibernate--from the storm, and all this nutty language.”
