Just in Time, by Sandra James

27/11/2020

His eyes held mine, as they had all those years ago. My heart fluttered.

My divorce was final; I was free. Perhaps now my teenage crush would be requited. Our time at last.

The years had been kind to him. I hoped his smile was saying he thought the same about me.

I continued to gaze, lost in the depths of crystal pools… until a surreptitious movement distracted me.

A glint of sunlight on gold as he slipped something into his pocket.

The dent on his third finger almost as deep as the dent in my dreams.

Free from marital chains; free from a teenage crush. I could hear her deep sigh, Sandra. But now she can dream of a life free from wedding rings.

She almost went from frying pan into the fire but, yes, unfettered now... perhaps she'll be smart and join a writing group filled with dependable people :)

Thanks, Pamela! Sometimes the ones that got away get better and better in our memories, especially when other troubles come along but usually there's a reason they 'got away'. :)

Thank you, Sivan. How easy it would be during a low patch to fall victim! Yes, saved just in time by that glint of gold :)

An old love best not revisited!

Sandra James

Yes, Bobby! It's easy to forget the negative side of those old loves but she had a lucky escape. Thank you:)
