Laura understood that, if people didn't wash their hands properly, then Grandma and Grandpa might become ill or even die. She understood that she couldn't play with her friends. She understood that, with school shut, she needed to do schoolwork at home instead. She even understood when her sixth birthday party had to be cancelled.
One day, while everyone else was in the garden, Laura found a hammer in a kitchen drawer and went to work. By the time her parents realised what was happening, she'd smashed seven plates and fifteen glasses. Her parents were angry, but understood.
