Looking Good, by Sue Clayton

7/8/2020

“My Bert does look handsome, don’t he?” An elderly wife admires my masterpiece.

“Our Cammy’s always been a bad girl, but you’ve made her look like an angel.” Her parents tear up; nod approval at my artful disguise.

“Darling Julian’s a vision of health,” one half of a same-sex couple gazes at his partner’s rouged, fleshed-out cheeks. You’re a wiz with a colour palette.

I pulled down the shutters and locked the door on my artwork; three more satisfied clients rested in peace at Fine Farewell’s Funeral and Embalming Parlour, looking good for their final journey.

...and the final accolade of artistic expression goes to the mortuary makeup artist!

Love your funny take on the topic, Sue. Excellent story.

Your art of story telling is marvellous!

Your camera eye is always on duty. You know how to separate wheat from chaff. That's why each story you write grabs our eyeballs. The story teller's art of being involved in and detached from the subject at once - you've mastered it, Sue.

All your comments made my day, especially yours, Swapan.

This is fun and well done, Sue. This artist is doing such a good job, it looks like folks are dying to get in her parlor...
(UGH - I know - bad joke ;-)
