Mud. Mud so thick it pulls your clothes off. Cold mud, stale mud, rotting mud. Mud that plugs your ears and makes you deaf. Hard mud, soft mud. Mud that plasters your naked body and weighs down your limbs. Walls of mud, rivers of mud, lakes of mud. Mud that clouds your vision and slows your mind. Mud that pulls you like a vacuum. Mud that resists your every movement. Brown mud, green mud, black mud. Oozing mud, pouring mud. Mud laced with sticks and peppered with stones. Mud pockmarked from the rain. Mud wrapped around you like a chrysalis.

Dare we hope that when the chrysalis cracks open refreshing, cleansing beauty emerges?

Excellent use of relentless repetition ("mud") to underscore an image that could be real or a metaphor of numerous things. Well done, indeed! Comments are closed.
