Murder... Again, by Sandra James

Cooped up for too long in isolation with him, watching too many re-run murder mysteries…CSI, Law & Order, Lewis, Morse, Death in Paradise, New Tricks and more…homicidal musing dominated her thoughts.

There was no harm in it, she reasoned. It was only words in her head, not actual deeds.

Sticks and stones might break bones but words couldn’t hurt.

Finally, a covid-safe shopping excursion. She saw the approaching car as he stepped off the kerb…hesitated, called out too late, ‘Wait!’

Words couldn’t hurt but the timing of just one was deadly.

Thanks, Mary. Yes, after watching all those re-runs I think my story might arouse the suspicions of a Jessica Fletcher or a Hercule Poirot.

Thanks for the feedback, Peggy :) Yes, much better for him unless he was like some (not all!) husbands, then he would most likely have complained and she would still have had the murderous thoughts :)

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a larger number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish the later ones EARLIER around 4.00 am. On the rare occasions where there are more than 50 stories, we'll post an even earlier set, probably around 2.00 am UK time.
