Smoke escapes from the short barrel as he collapses in pain. She breathes with relief as tears begin to stream down her red, swollen cheeks. His violent hands will never hurt her again.
“Any last words?” she asks.
He tries to speak, but a mouthful of blood muffles the sound. She screams as she removes her wedding band,
“Then die already, you bastard,”!
Police sirens ring out in the distance. She lights a cigarette and looks in the mirror at the bruised and battered face reflecting back. Exhaling a hazy white cloud at the shattered glass, she whispers, "never again"!
