Never Too Late, by Don Tassone

13/11/2018

Frank had been the janitor at a school in Vermont for 47 years when he retired.

As a boy, Frank had dreamed about being an artist, but he had never found the time to paint.

When he cleaned the classroom where students took art, he would always check out their paintings. Sometimes on his lunch breaks, he would sit on a bench behind the school and gaze at the trees and mountains in the distance.

The morning after he retired, Frank dipped an artist’s brush into acrylic paint, reached out to a blank canvas and began to realize his dream.

Don, that could be my nudge! I've moved my paints & easel back to the room where I might paint! Better do it before then all dry up. Dreams don't need to wait.

If you can possibly make your dreams come true before retirement, do it. Do not live out your life being paid for work you hate. I know this from experience. Live the dream--at least on weekends of that's the best you can do.

Your story was perfectly written. Enjoyable read. I can also relate. I got laid-off from a 15 year job and decided to go back to school in 2009. My first class was a writing class. I hadn't written since I was a kid and forgot how much I loved it. If I would have retired at my job like I was supposed to, I would have missed out on the biggest passion of my life.

I'm so glad you're a writer, Lisa. We are all enriched. Thank you.
