She removes her veil.
‘You’re right,’ she says. ‘Don’t stop the car. Wrong place. Wrong person.’
She can see it all so clearly now the veil has gone.

The way he noticed her shiver that time they went for a drink and lent her his hoodie … the way he brought her a Kit-Kat on Mondays, her least favourite day … and especially the way he said limps were sexy when she broke her ankle on team-building day.
