My mom was moving out of her 50-year-old apartment, where I was born and my dad was lost. Helping with the packing, I found a yellow rubber duckie in the wardrobe. Torn, but clean. Amused, I asked her if she was collecting garbage. She smiled, “That was your toy. You bathed with it, slept with it, read it books, told it stories, sang it nursery rhymes. You duckspoke silly things.”
Now, I barely recalled to have named it Billy. “You then made new friends – Ultraman, Walkman, Nintendo; then moved out, forgot your buddy. I’ve been keeping company with it.”
