Outside, a large dog hunkered against the wind and looked up at her with pleading eyes.
The door flew open, and she was sucked outside into the cold. The door slammed shut; she couldn't budge it. She slipped on ice and tumbled down the steps, striking her head on the walkway.
She regained consciousness, wind-driven snow whipping around her; she was snow-blinded. The dog snuggled beside her. It licked her face; gave her the warmth to survive the storm.
