Thanksgiving is the holiday specifically established in the US (and Canada) when we’re supposed to take stock of all the things, people, events that we are grateful for – a promotion, a new grandchild, a wedding. It’s a good thing that we have a time set aside to remind ourselves of the bounty and the happy events that fill our lives. Yet it’s also a little sad that we seem to need an annual reminder to do so. This year, as we enter the Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa season, I am thankful that I have something that many other people do not – I’m alive.
