‘I can do this,’ she tells her reflection. ‘I look normal, and nothing can stop me.’
She walks down the stairs and approaches the front door. Her outstretched hand freezes in mid-air.
‘This barrier is not real.’ Trembling, she turns the handle and steps outside.
‘Morning,’ a voice calls out. ‘Lovely day, isn’t it?’
Her heart races and her breathing quickens. ‘Yes,’ she stammers before closing the door.
Inside, she smiles in triumph. Tomorrow, she will walk to the garden gate.
