The phone rang, its cry disturbing the peaceful evening air.
He picked it up and greeted the caller.
“Whatever you do, don’t listen to him!”
“Excuse me?”
“He’s going to sound charming; he will offer you everything you have ever wanted. But don’t listen to him! I beg you!”
“If this is some joke, then it isn’t a very funny one.”
“He knows who you’ve lost and what you’d do to get them back. Don’t be tempted by him, please!”
The servant entered and hailed him.
“Sir, there’s someone at the gate. He says he has a proposition for you.”
