I scrambled down the river bank, slipping on mud and fallen leaves, grabbing branches to slow my descent.
The cat stood at the edge looking at the water, then back up at me.
As I reached the bottom my foot slipped on a wet rock, I grabbed a thin branch which snapped under my weight and I fell backwards into the river.
As I sat in the freezing cold water I reached for the cat, who turned and walked up the bank. I’m certain it smirked before disappearing out of sight.
