Browsers and bibliophiles leave a mess at the used book stalls. Cheapest volumes, those that get handled the most, already have cracked spines and margins filled with notations. Words are underlined. Fingerprints decorate the title page. Pages are dog-eared. See that guy in a business suit who picked up a book in one hand with a full coffee cup in the other!

I so love this story, Clare. It encapsulates what I feel about books - the real paper ones, that is. Long may they live in this electronic world.
