The chief’s son broke one of the major tribal laws. One that the chief himself had made. The penalty was thirty-nine lashes with a whip in the public square.
He loved his son so much, he couldn’t bear the thought of his son going through that if he didn’t enforce the law, especially one he had made, people would say he was showing favoritism and corruption would begin deteriorating the very foundation of the tribe.
“The punishment must be paid,” the chief said. He moved his son aside, partially disrobed and gripped the whipping post.
