It’s Mum’s birthday today; I checked the calendar. She emerges momentarily from her Alzheimic prison. Raises her eyebrows. Nods. Returns.
Today I understand. Happy Birthday, Mum!

Each day has morphed into the next and I need to check the calendar regularly to see which day it is. My memories have become a little vague and I question their verity. How long has it been? How much longer? Will I wake from this surreal dream?
It’s Mum’s birthday today; I checked the calendar. She emerges momentarily from her Alzheimic prison. Raises her eyebrows. Nods. Returns. Today I understand. Happy Birthday, Mum!

Days drifting into days, mind going numb, giving all of us a taste of what Alzheimer's might feel like. I hope Mum found some enjoyment on her birthday.

Thanks Sue. My dad is able to visit Mum again in the nursing home and he's thrilled she still remembers him! For her birthday they made a lovely cake and made a socially-distant fuss of her :) And, yes, it does give us a small taste of what life is like for anyone with Alzheimer's.
