Lucy saw Justin’s F-150 outside her trailer. Inside she heard the shower running and noticed his ripped denim jacket draped over her chair. It had a flannel lining with “dragons” stenciled on the back. He emerged in a cloud of steam, clothes in one hand and boots in the other.
“Postmistress asked me if I was Lucy’s new boyfriend that might’ve killed that girl and just got out the Denton jail.”
“People around here talk.”
“I told her if I’d killed her, I’d still be inside.”
“Who’re the dragons?”
“Gang I rode with.”
“Where’s your bike?”
“Ancient history, girl.”
