Viruses, by Mary Wallace

27/3/2020

I'm stuck at home. I talk to the cat and the boy who delivers my groceries; not that he brings what I order. I have my kindle, my TV, my phone and my computer.

Well, my TV has started pixelating, throwing up a "no signal" message, but I can play my dvd's. My computer seems to have downloaded its own virus, so it's back to pen and paper for writing. My phone has stopped turning on, over use I suppose. No social media!

It could be worse - sh*t- what's happened to the power?

You've got to be kidding!

Hope you're not tempting fate there, Mary! If my power goes out tonight...I'll cry :(

I have been fighting with electronic devices all day. Thank goodness for books...as long as the power stays on.

My email and internet have reverted to snail mail. Gave me a good chuckle.

I think it's me. Every FRED I touch stuffs up.

I have a friend who works in internet provision and he says the hoses are clogged with so many people working from home and using such things as video conferencing. The rest of us are Netflixing and Amazoning and such, and it's a bit of a test for the network's capacity. All that said, fine and fun story, Mary!
Take care
Jim

Electronic devices take one look at me and pull the plug. They can see the fear In my mind. Thanks for reading Jim.

Thank you Mary - stuck here in quarantine until Saturday. Just got back from Fla - no TV but computer and phone plus reading and writing. You remind me that we're all in the same boat.
Surreal - cars parked like useless sentinels.
Plenty of food - bring on the peanut butter.

Thank goodness the power hasn't actually gone off. Those of us who love reading and writing certainly have an advantage. Thanks for reading Stella.

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.
Recently, we've welcomed a lot of newcomers and found that even two batches doesn't cover them all. Wherever that happens, we'll simply be publishing 'as and when' during the course of the day.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
