What is THIS? by Janice Siderius

The American tour group is sitting in a restaurant in Edinburgh. Susie had signed up for the Dinner Tour, which included a meal and entertainment. This was part of the “British Isles in 10 Days” which was now in its eighth day. All Susie really wanted was a McDonald’s hamburger.

The waiter is serving what looks like a lump of potatoes, another whitish lump of something, and slices of a black sausage.

The waiter explains, “This is haggis, a Scottish specialty.”

“OK, I’ll try it.”

Susie took a bite. Her face froze as her hand grabbed her napkin. She gagged.

This story is blasphemous. The author should expect a visit from a group of little tartan-furred animals, each with two short legs and two long ones. (Drums fingers on the table waiting for explanation...)

I had to look up haggis. Then I looked up offal. Or is that awful? Even the dictionary agrees with you, Janice. You've got my vote.

I love Edinburgh. But I did notice that some of the waiters got a kick out of seeing Americans gag. The vegetarian haggis is pretty good though.

I have never heard of vegetarian haggis......how do they make it without using animal parts?

I love haggis. No accounting for taste.

I knew it, I KNEW IT. This story was sure to get a comment from Gordon! Pardon my limited culinary knowledge--but just what is haggis, anyway?

Look it up Bobby (and offal), and prepare to gag. ;-) Actually, it's just a matter of what you have grown to appreciate. Many folks get the same reaction when I eat tofu...
Nice story, by the way, Janice! ;-)

Haggis is what I look like when I look in the mirror and that makes me gag. I'll go with McDonald's. Fun piece.
