I remove my clothes, fold them neatly; shoes on top. I crawl to the water’s edge. I don’t want to slip, break my wrist, and be found naked. I stand carefully, step into the water. The icy band rises to my waist. No good drowning too close to the edge. I kick towards deeper water.
Unanticipated exhilaration hits me. I swim further out, turn, return to the shore. I’m glowing. I’ll do this again. I’ll bring a flask. And a towel.
